چکیده

We introduce the notion of self-consistency checking, a new methodology for applying formal methods in the debugging process. Intuitively , self-consistency checks functional consistency of a circuit in two diierent modes or environments. Self-consistency can (1) simplify property veriication and (2) enable the use of symbolic simulation in the absence of a concrete speciication. We present a correctness model for property veriication with self-consistency checking and the formal framework for the technique. Finally, we provide illustrative examples and partial veriication results using self-consistency checking on circuits with many thousands of latches. 1 Motivation As hardware designs become more complex, the cost of validation is becoming a larger fraction of the total design cost. Validation currently consumes a large fraction of design teams and requires massive simulation eeorts. In fact, one industry expert predicts that there will soon be two or three validation engineers for every design engineer on major microprocessor design projects Wil95]. Formal veriication has been suggested as a remedy for the increasing dii-culty of design validation. For a broad survey of this eld, the reader is referred to Gupta Gup92]. Formal veriication methods always check the consistency of two descriptions of behavior. For example, one description may be a state graph and the other a set of temporal logic properties. Most work in formal veriica-tion rests on the assumption that one description represents the implementation of the design, while the other is a requirements speciication, which captures the important correctness properties of the design (while usually disregarding eeciency and performance issues). Unfortunately, many interesting properties are not veriiable in practice. There are two main problems. The rst is that the system speciication is often incomplete or absent. In fact, our experience indicates that speciications are rarely written; when they are written, they are rarely precise; and when they are precise, they rapidly become obsolete as the design implementation

Self-esteem is defined as individual’s assessment of his or her own value. This concept plays a central role in psychological theory and research and is related to many indicators of positive functioning. Shapourian et al. study (1987) on Rosenberg self-esteem scale indicates that this scale has acceptable reliability (internal consistency) and is unidimensional. The aim of the present study wa...

Validation of Self-directed Learning Ability Scale for Nursing Student

Introduction: Self-directed learning development and promotion is one of the major goals of higher education. Since the students are expected to reach a level of individual competence at which they can detect and meet their educational needs without necessarily being in a special educational system and ultimately they can evaluate their learning. The purpose of this study was to validate the se...

Introduction and purpose: Self-consistency is an important aspect of adaptation in all stages of life particularly in aging. Furthermore, self-consistency is associated with mental health and life satisfaction and its reduction can lead to several psychological problems. On the other hand, exercise is able to improve flexibility, cognitive function, psychological adjustment and performance. The...

Culture and self-concept stability: consistency across and within contexts among Asian Americans and European Americans.

Whereas prior cultural research has focused on consistency of self-descriptions across contexts, the current 4 studies examined cultural differences in consistency of multiple self-dimensions and did so both across and within different contexts. Supporting predictions, Study 1a found that Asian Americans were less consistent in their self-descriptions across relationship contexts than were Euro...

Cross-Situational Self-Consistency in Nine Cultures: The Importance of Separating Influences of Social Norms and Distinctive Dispositions.

We assessed self-consistency (expressing similar traits in different situations) by having undergraduates in the United States ( n = 230), Australia ( n = 220), Canada ( n = 240), Ecuador ( n = 101), Mexico ( n = 209), Venezuela ( n = 209), Japan ( n = 178), Malaysia ( n = 254), and the Philippines ( n = 241) report the traits they expressed in four different social situations. Self-consistency...

Re-construing the relational-interdependent self-construal and its relationship with self-consistency

Our study sought to: (1) tie the relational self-construal to the nomological net of the interpersonal circumplex and (2) show that prior self-construal research confounded consistent with desirable descriptions of self and others. Undergraduates (nD 233) completed measures of relational self-construal, Machiavellianism, the interpersonal circumplex, self-consistency, and self-friend consistenc...
